Accompanied by Ivan, the CCYM<\/a> ranger, and Mr. Taminchi, a resident of Santa Lucia and regular back-up to Ivan, we ventured into the Concession to participate, among other things, in their “vigilance” mission<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Armed with our boots and citronella, we participated in the daily life of the forest guards for 3 days. From garita to garita (control huts), we were able to explore the forest in search of seed-producing trees, including some endangered species, with the aim of reforestation. Capinuri (Clarisia biflora)<\/em>, shihuahuaco (Dipteryx micrantha)<\/em>, quinilla roja (Manilkara bidentata)<\/em>\u2026… In total, more than 500 seeds were collected and will be used in the coming months. With the help of a GPS, we have initiated a census of these trees by geolocating them, which will facilitate the next harvest!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

We also organised a visit to the aguajale, a wetland in the Concession, in order to collect young aguaje shoots that will be used to set up an agroforestry workshop and to develop a sustainable economic alternative. There are currently more than 700 young palm trees being cared for by Mr. Taminchi in a temporary nursery while waiting to be planted!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Visits to the garita also provide an opportunity to observe the work carried out by the forest guards, such as the floating locks that serve to block the passage of potential infringers. These shared moments are above all an opportunity to discuss needs, exchange on past events and learn from each other.
