The National Forest Weekis a Peruvian national event that celebrates the importance of biodiversity. It takes place yearly during the first week of November to sensitize the population through a wide array of practical and\/or technical activities. This event promotes dialogue with young people about their direct or indirect relationship with the forest, inviting them to reflect and act based on their own reality. It also seeks to involve families, whose daily practices can have an impact on the environment. <\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative mobilizes various agents of change, reminding them of their responsibilities and the actions they can take. In Tingo Marian and Pichanaki, in the departments of <\/span>Hu\u00e1nuco and Jun\u00edn, many people responded to the call, demonstrating their commitment to the cause. During the event, Envol Vert team supported various partners of the ConBosque program<\/a> in disseminating knowledge and engaging with the public.<\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/i><\/div>In Pichanaki<\/h4><\/div>

In Pichanaki, Envol Vert supported two partners: National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) and the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (SERNANP).). Lara, a volunteer specializing in conservation and awareness-raising, contributed her expertise to organize a drawing and painting contest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Drawing competition<\/h4>\n

The drawing and painting contest aimed to strengthen children’s connection to the forest and convey key messages about its conservation. Before the activity, there was a discussion about the importance of trees, their functions, and the ecosystem services provided by the forest. Although these were complex topics, the children participated enthusiastically, which was clearly reflected in their creations. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is no contest without a reward, and Envol Vert also contributed medals for the first contest. SERNANP \u201c <\/span>Bosque de Protecci\u00f3n Pui Pui,\u201d together with Envol Vert, held the second contest and donated diplomas. This was also a way to leave a mark and reinforce the idea that, thanks to the actions of each participant, the forest can remain as they have imagined it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Reforestation<\/h4>\n

But Forest Week is also an opportunity to take concrete action. For example, a resident of the town of Nueva Florida proposed a reforestation initiative with SERNANP. Thanks to this proposal, we were able to promote the reforestation of species such as the bayo cedar (
\n<\/span>Cedrela fissili) and the moena (Rhodostemonodaphne licanioides).). In total, almost 500 seedlings have been replanted, and producers are willing to plant more!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/i><\/div>In Tingo Maria<\/h4><\/div>
<\/div><\/div>

In the other area of the program, Tingo Maria, the National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) and the Technical Administrations of the National Forest and Wildlife Service (ATFFS) of Tingo Maria carried out a program of activities to commemorate the care and protection of forests.<\/p>\n

National Forest Week began with a press conference, at which each organization involved in the event was introduced and the schedule of activities to celebrate forest conservation was presented.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Play about illegal wildlife trafficking<\/h4>\n

A play about illegal wildlife trafficking, produced by ATFFS and the National Agrarian University of the Jungle (UNAS), was performed for approximately 590 children at three schools in Tingo Mar\u00eda. The aim was to raise awareness of the importance of understanding that wild animals are not pets. The performance had a strong impact and captured the attention of the young audience. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Reforestation<\/h4>\n

As in Pichanaki, a reforestation activity was organized. The ATFFS, UNAS, <\/span>Rotary Club, the community of Supte Alto, and Envol Vert planted 300 forest seedlings of the species Bushilla, Shaina, Bolaina, Mahogany, and Capirona in the Guadalajara sector of Supte Alto.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Local Forests Workshop<\/h4>\n

Envol Vert participated in a workshop on \u201cConservation strategies through local forests and sustainable ecotourism development.\u201d The aim was to strengthen the association’s legal and technical knowledge so that it could then help local communities obtain one of two titles: \u201cLocal Forest\u201d or \u201cEcotourism Conservation Concession.\u201d These could enable community tourism associations to protect their Primary Forests suitable for Protection (BPP). <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Fair-Forest Footprint<\/h4>\n

To raise awareness among the population, a two-day fair was held with stands from the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of Hu\u00e1nuco (DRAH), which presented a project on bamboo; the Villa Verde butterfly garden; several plant nurseries; craft stands; and Envol Vert, with a space dedicated to the forest footprint. In total, 28 adults and 9 children were reached.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Parade of community environmental defenders<\/h4>\n

To conclude this week, Envol Vert participated with community environmental defenders in the parade of institutions involved in organizing National Forest Week. <\/span><\/p>\n

The objective of this activity was to highlight the role of community environmental defenders, local leaders who are part of the ConBosque project. They receive training to be representatives of Envol Vert, as ambassadors, both at the community level and at the landscape level (with other population centers or governance bodies) and through digital media (social networks). <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
