Four tribes of the <em>Apinae<\/em> subfamily (Hymenoptera order) produce honey: the <em>Apininae<\/em> (honeybees); <em>Euglossininae<\/em> (orchid bees); <em>Bombininae<\/em> (bumblebees); <em>Meliponinae<\/em> (stingless bees). (abeilles des orchid\u00e9es); les <em>Bombininae<\/em> (bourdons); les <em>Meliponinae<\/em> (abeilles sans dard).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Honey production is therefore not exclusive to domestic bees of the genus <em>Apis,<\/em> as the tribe <em>Meliponini<\/em> also produces honey. This subfamily of bees includes 33 genus, with 397 species currently recorded. These stingless bees, which have existed since the separation of the continents (which began around 200 million years ago), have spread throughout the tropics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Melipona bees play the same role in <strong>pollinating crops and producing honey<\/strong>; they are crucial for the reproduction of a significant proportion of plants in tropical areas. In the Amazon region, bees pollinate <strong>38%<\/strong> of tropical plants (Kerr et al., 1999).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though the honey crop from melipona bees is smaller than the honey crop from Apis mellifera, it has a bunch of other advantages:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This honey is recognized for its <strong>high quality<\/strong> and rich aroma.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <strong>therapeutic and medicinal properties<\/strong> and is used by indigenous communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a product with high added value in <strong>cosmetology<\/strong>. However, there is a lack of research on its cosmetic properties.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It costs a lot more. This honey is known for being special and even rare. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to its <strong>rarity<\/strong>, it costs significantly more than other honeys.
