Today more than ever, we know that social and environmental issues are deeply linked. In order to protect the environment, it is necessary to evolve in a social environment that ensures the respect of everyone. For this reason, Envol Vert called on its partner, the NGO Escuela para el Desarrollo, to offer a 3-day training course to the residents of Mahuizo, Santa Lucia, Selva Alegre and Nueva Florida. The theme addressed by Zé and Véronica, the trainers, was Leadership and Gender.
As always, we like to break the ice with a game that allows us to get to know each other better and to put aside our shyness. The first day started with a workshop where everyone could express their values and hobbies. In groups, the 30 participants then drew a picture of the main places of power and influence in the four communities, as well as the political and social issues related to them. Still in groups, the communities then had to propose 3 projects that they would like to implement in the next 5 years. These included a new bridge and road, a university, better access to health care, and reforestation initiatives.
The second day started with a personality test, making them aware that each person has their own character, their own way of thinking and interacting. This was followed by a workshop on assertive communication and conflict resolution. In a role-playing game, they were able to put into practice the knowledge they had recently learned. It was a dynamic day with lots of laughter and ideas from both trainers and participants!
The last day of training focused on gender issues. Through statistics (femicides, premature pregnancies, …) and sharing of experiences, everyone was able to learn more about the (in)equality between men and women in our societies. The workshop ended with a group reflection phase, allowing the participants to make proposals to improve the daily life of all. From awareness-raising panels to sex education courses, their ideas are a symbol of hope for equal opportunities!
