Envol Vert Peru team had the pleasure of hosting Emmanuelle Poirier-Magona from the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and Francesca GAL from the French Development Agency (AFD) during a field visit to the ConBosque project in Peru.

The visit began in Pucallpa with local technical partners: SERNANP, Sira Communal Reserve, ECOSIRA, AIDESEP Ucayali Regional Organization (ORAU), and the Federation of Native Communities of the District of Iparia (FECONADIP). After a six-hour boat ride, we arrived at our destination, where we were welcomed by the Shipibo-Konibo Nuevo Ahuaypa indigenous community. After meeting with local authorities, we spoke with participating families. The next day, we continued our visit to the community Botanical Garden, which aims to preserve endemic species of cultural and medicinal importance for the community. Next, a community mapping workshop was held during which participants divided their community into zones and located endemic species of fauna and flora on the map. These workshops are essential for the population to learn about their territory, the trails used by surveillance committees, and the biodiversity that must be protected in order to prevent external invasions and trafficking of timber or wildlife.

In the afternoon, we continued in the rain with visits to the farms of three participants to identify seed trees, understand their socio-economic situation and main sources of family income, and taste the delicious fruits of the area.

The visit continued in Tingo María with local stakeholders: SERNANP, Tingo María National Park, the Botanical Garden of the Agrarian University of the Jungle (UNAS), the Regional Directorate of Tourism (DIRCETUR) , and farmers participating in the project.
Community environmental promoters were able to share their knowledge and motivation for participating in local governance spaces, and producers of honey from native stingless bees (meliponini) showed their hives and honey production. The ecotourism potential is strong in Tingo María, as is the interest of the population.

The ConBosque project aims to support them in community forest conservation and the development of economic alternatives to deforestation, such as ecotourism.

We thank our partners for their visit and their commitment to forests and conservation stakeholders!
