Mid-February saw the first 2022 internship of the Pichanaki Coffee Program. The chosen place was Mr. Victor Macetas’ land plot in Buena Vista (Pichanaki), and the communities of Piriari and Santa Rosa, both belonging to Rio Tambo (Satipo), participated in this event. The main goal was to show the benefits of agroforestry systems using native species associated with coffee.

Internships are an ideal and complementary activity for the training of our participants and partners. It allows the exchange of knowledge and experiences on a specific topic, and also encourages the practice of theoretical knowledge. This first internship of the year was attended by Yoan Huamantinco, a representative of the technical team of the Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Sostenible Valle Ubiriki (CACSVU), who learned more about agroforestry systems through coffee cultivation and will be able to share this knowledge with other partners of the allied cooperative.

A total of 45 participants showed their skills and knowledge by recognizing the importance of agroforestry systems implementation with native species. 15 of them were children and young people who, despite their age, were able to recognize native trees and appreciate their benefits. These young participants are part of the seeds that Envol Vert Peru is leaving behind and that will allow us to continue the Agroforestry with Coffee and Conservation Project in Pichanaki.

We therefore recognize the importance of children and young people’s participation as a fundamental part of trainings and field work. This will allow them to develop new competencies, values and aptitudes, as well as forge new learning and experiences that they can share with their friends and family.
