On 24 June 2024, the Envol Vert Pichanaki team visited the villages of Florida del rio Ayte and Nueva Florida del rio Ayte to start conservation activities in the buffer zone of the Pui Pui protected forest. The aim of the meeting was to jointly select the themes to be worked on between now and the end of 2024. Eight people attended the meeting (three women and five men).

After a brief presentation of the NGO, the team talked about the various conservation projects and economic activities implemented by Envol Vert in Peru. It was a good opportunity for the participants to find out a little more about the actions carried out in the area and possible future actions.  It was an important space for exchange, to find out the first impressions and the interest of the participants.

The participants next shared what they would like to learn about nature conservation and biodiversity. The objective for the participants is to identify the subjects that they are more interested in, so that the field team can adapt the training courses according to their needs. The subjects that attracted the most interest:

  • conservation of flora and fauna
  • implementation of ecotourism
  • forest fires, soil restoration and conservation
  • forest ecosystem services and the risks associated with climate change

The community has expressed a certain interest in enforcing their knowledge on these subjects. This is where the Envol Vert team plays a key role, through the workshops it runs once a month in the villages, we co-construct the knowledge and support the producer families involved in the agro-ecological transition towards the development of economic alternatives to deforestation.
