At the end of the year 2021, the groups of participants met as usual, but a few surprises were waiting for them to close this year 2021, the first year of participation for many of them.

The maintenance of the collective nurseries requires a lot of involvement from the farmers throughout the year, but also adaptation. It is necessary to adapt to the development of the seed and seedlings, which vary according to the species, but also to the environment. To ensure the survival of the planted trees, it is preferable to install them at the beginning of the rainy season. In this way, we avoid any drought or flooding of the young, still fragile trees. The rains in Tingo Maria can be very intense.

The first young trees arrived in the nursery in August. By December, almost five months later, most of the trees were ready to be distributed to participants and installed in their plots. This is the best time to do this, coinciding with the start of the rainy season.

Thus, for the first time in the history of Envol Vert’s agroforestry projects, 95% of the trees planted in 2021 in Tingo Maria were planted in December. How happy the participants were to receive their first trees!

“I am very happy to be able to plant my trees today. Now I will have to work hard to put them in the right place,” Lener.

The first tree planting was added to the list of festivities this December. The farmers gathered received their first participant certificate summarising the number of trees they will plant on their plots, the training they received and attesting to their participation in Envol Vert’s agroforestry program. All this while sharing a hot chocolate and a slice of paneton, according to the Peruvian Christmas tradition!
