On the Piamonte site, the Salvemos Selva association has already begun working with communities and has signed conservation agreements with private owners who, in order to maintain the forest, have committed to contributing to economic alternatives. This project focuses on supporting ecotourism (trails, accommodation areas, communication) and native bees.
It’s important to note that the Salvemos Selva initiative is the brainchild of young biologists with a passion for conserving the region’s forests and its biodiversity. This passion led them to make contact with landowners who, in turn, have fallen in love with the biodiversity of their forests. In this sense, the project aims to preserve this relationship and improve scientific knowledge by involving the community (community inventories, collective counts, global bigday, Titi caquetensis festival, awareness-raising actions). To this end, experts and high-quality equipment will also be made available.
Finally, the project also focuses on spreading the importance of conservation through local promoters trained and sensitized to environmental protection, and on launching an identification process in order to have a territory in the OMEC (other effective conservation measures, from its Spanish acronym).
